Quick answers

TranZit is Black Ops 2's launch Zombies map — a bus route through the fog-bound Hanford Site linking the Bus Depot, Diner, Farm, Power Station, Town and Cornfield. Its quest, Tower of Babble, makes you pick a side, Maxis or Richtofen. Only one can be completed per save, and the Maxis path is both canon and the easier of the two. Rated Medium, 30–50 minutes.

How do you complete the TranZit (Green Run) Easter egg?

It is rated Medium and takes about 30–50 min. The run breaks down like this:
  1. Shared — build the Turbine + power switch, then Pack-a-Punch (timed Town-bank vault)
  2. MAXIS — turn power off, EMP grenades
  3. MAXIS — heat the Pylon with Turbines, kill Avogadro under it
  4. MAXIS — place Turbines at two street lamps → done
  5. RICHTOFEN — keep power on, build the Jet Gun
  6. RICHTOFEN — heat the rock, then EMP the 4 lamp posts together
Each stage is written out in full — with the exact locations, the order things must be done in and what to do when a step refuses to trigger — in the walkthrough below.

How long does the TranZit (Green Run) Easter egg take?

About 30–50 min for a run that already knows the steps, and we rate it Medium. A first attempt takes considerably longer — almost all of the time goes on setup rather than the finale, so knowing the order in advance is what shortens a run.

Can you do the TranZit (Green Run) Easter egg solo?

Players: 1–4 (co-op eases).

Is there a song Easter egg on TranZit (Green Run)?

Yes — “Carrion”. Kevin Sherwood ft. Clark S. Nova. Hold interact on the 3 teddy bears: the Bus Depot bench beside the lava, the Farmhouse upper-floor bed, and a bar stool on the lower floor of the Town bar. Once per match. Full trigger steps for it are in the side Easter eggs section.

What are the main areas on TranZit (Green Run)?

10 are documented: Bus Depot, Tunnel, Diner, Farm, Power Station, Town, Cornfield & Pylon, Prototype (Nacht ruin), Hunter's Cabin and Bridge & Diner–Town shortcut. Knowing the names matters more than it sounds — most guides, including this one, describe locations by area name rather than by direction.

How many side Easter eggs are on TranZit (Green Run)?

8 are documented here — song, mechanic, side quest, buildable, free weapon and collectible. Each one has its own steps rather than a one-line mention, so they can be followed mid-game.

When was TranZit (Green Run) released?

13 Nov 2012.

Steps at a glance

Choose one side per game. Maxis needs 2+ players and the power switched OFF. The Richtofen side technically works without Samuel — you just lose the progression quotes, so solo Richtofen effectively means playing as Samuel to know where you are, and the final four-lamp step is extremely complicated solo (a video helps). Power stays ON for Richtofen. Original difficulty only.

Before you start

What to have in hand before step 1 — from the loadout notes, from the walkthrough itself, and from the map's own quest documentation where the gate is never stated in a step.

Gates on this quest
  • Tower of Babble only runs on Original difficulty.
  • The Maxis side needs the power off, at least two players, Turbines and EMP grenades.
  • The Richtofen side needs the power on, the Jet Gun built, and Samuel in the game — solo, that means you have to be playing as Samuel.

Set aside 30–50 min · 1–4 (co-op eases)

Where your run will differ

Gathered here so you meet them before they cost you a run rather than after — quoted word for word from the guide below, or researched from the map's own quest documentation.

Solo or co-op

What changes with your player count. The rest of the guide is the same either way.

  • The Maxis side is impossible alone: it needs two Turbines placed at two street lamps at the same time.
  • On the Richtofen side, playing solo means playing as Samuel, and the EMP finale wants the denizen teleporters set up in advance and two EMPs in hand.

1
Both paths

Shared setup

+

Build a Turbine at the Bus Depot bench (mannequin torso, fan, tail fin) — it powers doors, perks and traps before map power. Ride to the Power Station (4th stop), drop through the outhouse and build the power switch from three white-room parts (circuit/fuse box, severed arm, lever). The NAV table under the cornfield pylon is optional and not Maxis-specific — it's for the Victis Navcard chain (it accepts the card found in Buried).

2
Power Station → Town bank

Pack-a-Punch (timed Town vault)

+

With power on, drop into the Power Station white room and place a Turbine at the heavy metal door behind the drop. While it powers that door, race to the Town bank, grenade both vault doors and descend the stair (it stays open only while the remote Turbine holds). Build the machine from three corridor parts and Pack-a-Punch for 5,000. Co-op: leave one player at Power to place the Turbine once the other is at the bank.

M2
Maxis path

Maxis — power off & EMPs

+

After Maxis speaks, turn the power back off. Grab EMP grenades from the box.

M3
Cornfield Pylon

Maxis — heat the Pylon, kill Avogadro

+

Place two Turbines under the Pylon (two players) to power it — if Maxis says your power supplies are being drained, a Turbine is dying, so replace it before continuing. For the Avogadro, wait for lightning striking directly above a player, then end that round to spawn him; lure him under the Pylon and EMP him to launch him up. Take care the EMP blast doesn't catch your Turbines — it switches them off and voids the attempt.

M4
Bus Depot + Diner

Maxis — two street lamps

+

Place Turbines at two different Denizen-free street lamps (Bus Depot and Diner work) at the same time. In 3–4 player games the two Pylon Turbines must still be running as the two lamp Turbines go down (four Turbines total); in a 2-player game the Pylon Turbines aren't needed for this final step. Success cue: glowing orange orbs rise from the lamps and fly to the Pylon → Tower of Babble unlocks.

R2
Fog loop → Town bar

Richtofen — build the Jet Gun

+

Keep power ON. Collect the four Thrustodyne Model 23 (Jet Gun) parts spread across the loop — the road Tunnel (Bus Depot→Diner), the ruined Nacht der Untoten in the cornfields (Farm→Power), the Power Station lower floor beneath Tombstone, and the Hunter Cabin in the fog (Power→Town). Build at the Town bar bench, then let it fully cool (~40-60s) before the pylon step.

R3
Cornfield Pylon

Richtofen — heat the rock

+

Under the Pylon, blast the Jet Gun to heat the rock. A fully-charged Jet Gun then breaks and green lamps around the map start flickering — that's the cue. If the Jet Gun wasn't fully charged (hold it unfired ~40–60s to cool/charge before firing), it won't break here and must be rebuilt and re-fired.

R4
Cornfield Pylon

Richtofen — 25 explosive kills under the Pylon

+

With the rock heated and the Jet Gun broken, the team must score 25 explosive kills beneath the Pylon — collective across players, with the Ray Gun ideal (grenades and other explosives also count). Samuel then hears Richtofen say the power is too much. Only after this does the lamp-EMP step finish the quest.

R5
4 lamp posts

Richtofen — EMP the lamps

+

All players get EMPs. Stand by the green lamp posts at the four locations and EMP them together (two players can use the teleport-jump trick to cover four lamps). The tower turns blue → achievement.

Song

“Carrion”

+

Kevin Sherwood ft. Clark S. Nova. Hold interact on the 3 teddy bears: the Bus Depot bench beside the lava, the Farmhouse upper-floor bed, and a bar stool on the lower floor of the Town bar. Once per match.

  1. Hold Use on 3 teddy bears, in any order
  2. Bus Depot — on a bench outside, near the mini lava pit
  3. Farm — on a mat on the second floor of the house where you build the Turret
  4. Town — in the bar (first floor): through the big entrance, turn right, check the booths
  5. 'Carrion' by Kevin Sherwood plays
Mechanic

Bank & Weapon Fridge

+

Deposit points at the Town bank and stash a weapon in the Farm fridge — both persist between games (and are shared with Die Rise and Buried).

  1. Bank (Town, behind a grenade-blown metal door): deposit points in 1,000 increments (up to 250,000)
  2. Withdrawing returns 900 per 1,000 (a 10% fee); points persist across games and bank maps
  3. Share points: hit the bank keys with Galvaknuckles to drop a 1,000-point Bonus Points power-up for a teammate
  4. Weapon Fridge (Farm kitchen): hold Use to store one weapon (no wonder weapons or the starting pistol)
  5. The stored gun stays across future games until you take it back
Mechanic

Persistent upgrades

+

Green-mist perma-perks earned through play: e.g. faster revives (revive lots of players), stronger barriers (repair lots of boards), headshot damage and more. They carry across games until you lose them.

  1. Perma-perks carry across games; earning one gives a green flash and a voice line (thresholds are community figures)
  2. Perma-Jugg: go down 3 times before round 3 without Quick Revive (across matches) for a small HP buffer
  3. Perma Quick Revive: revive teammates 17 times in one match
  4. Perma-Tombstone: buy 4 perks before round 6 in three separate matches to keep all-but-one perk on death
  5. Steel barriers: rebuild ~74 boards after round 10; Double headshot damage: 5 collateral headshots
  6. Others: Red Insta-Kill, Mystery Box luck, the Ray Gun wall-buy trick and Perma-PhD (Buried) — see the linked guides for exact conditions
Side quest

Bus upgrades & the fog

+

Find the ladder, plow and hatch parts to upgrade the bus; Denizens infest the fog between stops (killed on a powered lamp they dig a teleporter portal); the Avogadro electric boss spawns from storms.

  1. Three bus parts spawn among four spots (Bus Depot room, Diner shed, Farm shed, Town Rare Books) — carry each to the bus and fit it
  2. Cowcatcher/Plow (front) instantly kills zombies the bus hits; Ladder (left) reaches the roof; Roof Hatch reaches spots like the Diner rooftop
  3. In the fog, Denizens leap onto your head and drain you — melee them off
  4. Power the lampposts green (power on, or a Turbine on a lamp)
  5. With a Denizen on your head, run under a lit lamppost — it burrows and opens a teleport portal to another lit lamp
  6. Riding inside the bus keeps you safe from Denizens
Buildable

Zombie Shield (TranZit)

+

Two parts in the Diner / garage area (a car door and a hand-truck / dolly) built at the garage bench — wear it on your back through the fog or to hold a doorway; rebuild freely when it breaks.

  1. Part 1 — a car door, in the Diner / garage area (Town, by the Bus Depot route)
  2. Part 2 — a hand-truck / dolly, in the same Diner garage area
  3. Build both at the garage workbench — wear it on your back through the fog or to hold a doorway; rebuild freely when it breaks
Buildable

Turret & Electric Trap

+

Build the Automated Turret at the Farm (RPD frame, lawnmower, ammo pouch) and the Electric Trap in the Power Station Tombstone room (battery, headlight, board). Each only runs while a Turbine is placed nearby, and both can down players — mind the firing line.

Free weapon

Galvaknuckles

+

6,000 on the Diner roof (reached by installing the bus roof-hatch in the Diner ceiling opening) — a strong melee for Denizens and for Galvaknuckling the bank keys to share points.

Collectible

Farm TV messages

+

Before turning on global power, interact with the Farmhouse television to cycle survivor messages — the chance is gone for the match once power is on.

When it isn't working

The stalls that actually cost people runs on this map, and what to do about each.

TroubleshootingEach of these is quoted from the step it belongs to, derived from a gate the guide already states, or researched from the map's own quest documentation — nothing here is guesswork about what might be going wrong.

No power — can't even start

The power switch is a buildable: circuit + severed arm + lever, all inside the Power Lab (entered through the outhouse at Power Station). Nothing on the quest advances until it's built and thrown.

Maxis side does nothing after power

Maxis' path only runs with the power OFF ('can be done only when the power on the map is turned off') and 'requires at least two players' with Turbines; you also need the Avogadro under the pylon and an EMP kill at the right moment. Turbines that run dry void the step — swap or replace them (Maxis says power 'drained below acceptable levels').

Richtofen never talks to us

Only Samuel hears Richtofen — on solo 'the player must be playing as Samuel'. Quest also requires Original difficulty (both sides).

Jet Gun broke the tower step / Richtofen says the pylon still isn't hot

Known snag, quoted: sometimes 'Richtofen will yell at Samuel telling him the Pylon needs to be hot, even after firing the Jet Gun until it breaks' — fix is rebuilding the Jet Gun (parts respawn at their locations) and letting it recharge 40–60s before firing to destruction under the tower.

EMP step with fewer than four players

Four green lamps must be EMP'd near-simultaneously. There is a documented denizen-teleporter trick (throw one EMP, jump the portal, throw the second) and even a strict solo method needing 3+ portals pre-made and specific lamp positions — but with four players it's trivial.

Common TranZit (Green Run) questions

Direct answers to the specific things players look up mid-game — part locations, puzzle steps and more.

How do I turn on the power on TranZit?

Build the power switch in the Power Lab, which is reached through the outhouse behind the Power Station. All three parts — the circuit board, the severed arm and the lever — are in that room.

What are the little creatures in the fog?

Denizens. They drop on you when you leave the bus in the fog and latch onto your face. Shake them off or kill them — and a Denizen killed directly under a lit street lamp burrows and opens a teleporter you can use.

What is the Avogadro?

The electric boss that appears once the power has been switched on. Bullets do nothing to it; only EMP grenades hurt it, and the Maxis path specifically requires killing it with EMPs under the Cornfield pylon. It can also latch onto the bus and stall it.

Where is Pack-a-Punch on TranZit?

Under the Town bank. Blow both vault doors with grenades, then place a Turbine to hold the underground door open. It is a timed trip — the Turbine burns out — so upgrade what you came for and get back out.

What does the Jet Gun do?

The Thrustodyne Model 23 vaporises everything in a cone in front of it, but it overheats quickly and will break permanently if you hold the trigger. When it breaks, its parts return to their original spawn points so it can be rebuilt.

Do the lava patches matter?

Yes. They damage you, and a zombie that walks through one becomes a burning shambler that explodes when it dies. Do not run a training loop through lava.

Why can I not hear Richtofen?

Only Samuel Stuhlinger hears him. If you want to run the Richtofen side of Tower of Babble solo, you have to be playing as Samuel.

Can the bus leave without me?

Yes. T.E.D.D. keeps to his own schedule and will not wait. Every location is walkable if you have Jugger-Nog and Stamin-Up, but the fog between stops is where the Denizens live.

What carries over between games?

Your bank balance, the weapon in the Farm fridge, and your persistent upgrades. So does your chosen quest side — finishing one locks the other until it is completed too, or until Buried's ending resets all three Victis maps.
