Rogue Run

Rogue Run is Black Ops 7's permanent roguelite Zombies mode — no Easter egg, just a run-based gauntlet. You start each run with a random pistol, clear a round, then take one reward from a pedestal to build toward a synergy, fighting HVT bosses across five playlists for permanent account unlocks.

Quick answers

How do you complete the Rogue Run Easter egg?

The run breaks down like this:
  1. Start every run with a random pistol and no perks — everything is earned from pedestals.
  2. Clear a round, then choose ONE of the offered pedestal rewards (perk, ammo mod, weapon, buff or stat boost).
  3. The run is about stacking pedestals into a synergy — an ammo-mod + damage core, then sustain (armour/heal) before the first HVT.
  4. HVT bosses gate progress across five playlists; beating them banks permanent account unlocks.
  5. A down/wipe ends the run — it's built to be replayed, with your unlocks carrying over.
  6. No fixed hidden power-ups: drops come from kills and specials as normal.
Each stage is written out in full — with the exact locations, the order things must be done in and what to do when a step refuses to trigger — in the walkthrough below.

How many side Easter eggs are on Rogue Run?

8 are documented here — mechanic, strategy, progression, mode, playlist and patch. Each one has its own steps rather than a one-line mention, so they can be followed mid-game.

When was Rogue Run released?

2026.

What to do

Build a synergy, not a hoard. The first two or three pedestals set the run — pair an ammo mod with a damage pedestal so every shot compounds, then grab a sustain pedestal (armour, heal or revive) before the first HVT boss. Greedy picks that don't reinforce your core are how good runs die.

Before you start

What to have in hand before step 1 — from the loadout notes, from the walkthrough itself, and from the map's own quest documentation where the gate is never stated in a step.

Know before you load in
  • No Easter egg and no round-based main quest. This is a permanent roguelite mode: pistol start, no perks, everything is earned from pedestals as you clear rounds.
  • Zombies are faster and more aggressive than round-based from the very first round.
  • Two playlists: Ashes of the Damned (launch) and Astra Malorum (Season 05), each in Casual, Normal and Hardcore where applicable. Permanent unlocks carry across every playlist, so there is no wrong one to grind.
  • Most round-based utilities are disabled here, but the Saw Blade Trap still works at Vandorn Farm, Exit 115 and Ashwood.
  • Several items are banned outright: the Mule Kick perk, the Fire Sale power-up, and a list of GobbleGums by rarity (Rare: Anywhere But Here; Epic: Respin Cycle, Exit Strategy, Soda Fountain, Nowhere But There; Legendary: Wall Power, Immolation Liquidation, Wall To Wall Clearance, Crate Power, Flavor Hex; Ultra: Wonderbar!, Time Out). Don't build a plan around any of these.
  • A down or wipe ends the run, but it is built to be replayed — permanent account unlocks earned along the way persist regardless of how the run ends.

The quest in the order this guide runs it — tap any step to jump to it, and it fills in as you tick steps off.

1
Run start

Start the run

+

You spawn with a randomly selected Common-rarity pistol and infinite ammo, no perks, no loadout weapon. Wonder Weapons and underbarrel attachments do not have infinite ammo even though primaries do.

2
The reward area after each cleared round

Clear a round, take one pedestal reward

+

You are teleported to an area with three pedestals, each drawing from a different reward pool: utility upgrades, weapons, perks, Field Upgrades, ammo mods and more. Claim one within the time limit or the game assigns one at random for you. Once all players have chosen, you move to the next arena.

Quick win: Don't dawdle on the choice screen — miss the timer and you lose the pick entirely to a random assignment.

3
Ongoing, every pedestal stop

Build a synergy, not a hoard

+

Open with an ammo-mod pedestal (Dead Wire, Napalm Burst, Cryo Freeze or Brain Rot) plus a damage or fire-rate pedestal so your starter pistol carries you. Bank one sustain pick — armour, heal or revive — before the first HVT boss. Read what you already hold and take the pedestal that multiplies it; greedy picks that don't reinforce your core are how good runs die.

Tip: Season 05 now blocks the Aether Crystal reward if the weapon you are holding cannot be Pack-a-Punched, so don't expect it to save an off-build run.

4
A tablet that spawns every round, in every playable area (Season 05, both playlists)

The Curse Inducer and Cursed Relics

+

Interact with it — mid-round or during the reward phase, or skip it entirely — to activate a random Cursed Relic for the rest of the run. You can trigger any Relic this way even if you have not unlocked it yourself in the separate Cursed mode. Activating enough Relics raises your Cursed Tier, which is tied to unlocking playlist Calling Cards, so it is not purely optional if you are chasing those. It disappears once used and respawns next round.

Quick win: The Relics themselves are unlocked elsewhere — via the Mysterious Object, which appears on Blackwater Lake in Ashes of the Damned after defeating Veytharion in that map's main Easter egg (reported by game8.co) — but once unlocked anywhere, the Curse Inducer here can activate them for free, tier-locked or not.

5
Ashes of the Damned — Luci (Doppelghast), Mal (Amalgam), Mo (Abomination), at rounds 20/30/40 on the All Targets track; Astra Malorum — round- and Relic-Tier-gated tracks per difficulty

HVT bosses and playlist rewards

+

On Ashes of the Damned, each HVT has its own reward track (a GobbleGum and 1,000 XP at round 5, a Rogue Run feature unlock and 2,500 XP at round 15, a second GobbleGum or feature and 5,000 XP for the kill), plus stacking rewards on All Targets for beating one, two or all three HVTs in a single run (up to a Ray to Play Calling Card for all three), and a separate Endurance track rewarding pure round survival (10/20/30). On Astra Malorum, Casual, Normal and Hardcore each reward a GobbleGum at an early round, a second GobbleGum later, and a Calling Card for clearing five rounds at that difficulty's Relic Tier — the three final Calling Cards are named Virtu Alpha (Casual), Virtu Beta (Normal) and Virtu Gama (Hardcore) in the community wiki, though the patch notes do not print them.

Quick win: Even a run that wipes before the boss still banks whatever milestone rewards you crossed — nothing here is lost on death except the run itself.

6
Applies map-wide, both playlists

Season 05 balance changes

+

Fewer zombies spawn per round; you now start with full armour and three plates; Ammo Mods transfer when you swap weapon rewards instead of being lost; the Uber Klaus HVT was replaced with a standard Uber Klaus in the every-five-round pool; and, as above, the Aether Crystal reward is blocked while holding a weapon that cannot be Pack-a-Punched. Health-regen and Mocha Maul bugs were also fixed in this patch.

7
Run end

Down, wipe, and the replay loop

+

A down (with no revive available) or a full wipe ends the run. There is no penalty beyond that — permanent unlocks earned from HVTs and challenges are already banked and apply to your next run in any playlist.

Tip: Because unlocks are permanent and playlist-agnostic, there is no wrong playlist to grind — pick whichever HVT roster or difficulty you find more survivable right now.

Side Easter Eggs & extras

Everything beyond the main quest. Tap any entry to open the full how-and-where breakdown.

Mechanic

The pedestal choice

+

After each cleared round you're offered pedestal rewards and take exactly one. Categories include perks, ammo mods, weapons and stat/economy buffs. Read what you already hold and pick the one that multiplies it — synergy beats raw power.

Strategy

Early-run priority

+

Open with an ammo-mod pedestal (Dead Wire, Napalm Burst, Cryo Freeze or Brain Rot) plus a damage / fire-rate pedestal so your starter pistol carries you. Bank one sustain pick before the first HVT; after that, snowball whichever element your mods favour.

Progression

HVT bosses & unlocks

+

Progress is gated by HVT (High-Value Target) bosses across five playlists. Clearing them awards permanent account unlocks that persist between runs, so even a failed run advances your roster.

Mode

Where it sits

+

Rogue Run is a standalone permanent mode alongside the round-based maps, Survival and Dead Ops Arcade 4 — pure run-based progression, no main quest to complete.

Playlist

Astra Malorum (NEW — Season 05)

+

Rogue Run expanded from Ashes of the Damned to Astra Malorum, each in Casual / Normal / Hardcore. Permanent unlocks carry across every playlist, so there is no wrong one to grind.

Casual — ‘Flavor Hex’ GobbleGum + 1,000 XP at Round 15; ‘Near Death Experience’ GobbleGum + 2,500 XP at Round 20; a Calling Card + 5,000 XP for the final challenge.
Normal — ‘Hellping Hound’ GobbleGum + 1,000 XP at Round 20; ‘Reign Drops’ GobbleGum + 2,500 XP at Round 30; Calling Card + 5,000 XP.
Hardcore — ‘Gift Card’ GobbleGum + 1,000 XP at Round 20; ‘Hidden Power’ GobbleGum + 2,500 XP at Round 30; Calling Card + 5,000 XP.

The three final-challenge Calling Card names are not published in the patch notes.

Mechanic

Curse Inducer (Season 05)

+

A new interactable tablet on both the Astra Malorum and Ashes of the Damned Rogue Run playlists. Activating it applies a random Cursed Relic for extra difficulty — and it is tied to earning the playlist Calling Cards, so it is not purely optional if you are chasing those.

Patch

Season 05 balance changes

+

Rogue Run got a round of quality-of-life work in Season 05: fewer zombies per round; you now start with full armour and 3 plates; Ammo Mods transfer when you swap weapon rewards (previously lost); the Uber Klaus HVT was replaced with a standard Uber Klaus in the every-five-round pool; and the Aether Crystal reward is now blocked when the weapon you are holding cannot be Pack-a-Punched. Health-regen and Mocha Maul fixes landed in the same patch.

Progression

Where the Relics come from

+

Relics are unlocked in Cursed mode via the Mysterious Object, which appears on Blackwater Lake in Ashes of the Damned after Veytharion is beaten (reported by game8.co); the Curse Inducer here can then activate any of them for free.

When it isn't working

The stalls that actually cost people runs on this map, and what to do about each.

TroubleshootingEach of these is quoted from the step it belongs to, derived from a gate the guide already states, or researched from the map's own quest documentation — nothing here is guesswork about what might be going wrong.

Stuck on step 3 — Build a synergy, not a hoard?

Tip: Season 05 now blocks the Aether Crystal reward if the weapon you are holding cannot be Pack-a-Punched, so don't expect it to save an off-build run.

Common Rogue Run questions

Direct answers to the specific things players look up mid-game — part locations, puzzle steps and more.

How does the pedestal choice work?

After each cleared round you are offered pedestal rewards and take exactly one. The categories cover perks, ammo mods, weapons and stat or economy buffs. Read what you already hold and pick the one that multiplies it — synergy beats raw power every time.

What should I pick first?

An ammo-mod pedestal — Dead Wire, Napalm Burst, Cryo Freeze or Brain Rot — plus a damage or fire-rate pedestal, so your starter pistol carries you. Bank one sustain pick, armour, heal or revive, before the first HVT boss.

Does a failed run give me anything?

Yes. Progress is gated by HVT bosses across the playlists, and clearing them awards permanent account unlocks that persist between runs — so even a run that dies advances your roster.

Which playlists are there?

Ashes of the Damned and, since Season 05, Astra Malorum — each in Casual, Normal and Hardcore. Permanent unlocks carry across every playlist, so there is no wrong one to grind.

What is the Curse Inducer?

A tablet added in Season 05 on both playlists. Activating it applies a random Cursed Relic for extra difficulty — and it is tied to earning the playlist Calling Cards, so it is not purely optional if you are chasing those.

What changed in Season 05?

Fewer zombies per round, you now start with full armour and three plates, ammo mods transfer when you swap weapon rewards where they used to be lost, the Uber Klaus HVT was replaced by a standard Uber Klaus in the every-five-round pool, and the Aether Crystal reward is blocked when the weapon you are holding cannot use it.

Is there a main quest in Rogue Run?

No. It is a standalone permanent mode alongside the round-based maps, Survival and Dead Ops Arcade 4 — pure run-based progression with nothing to complete beyond the HVT ladder.
